Moving a Device Within a Work Order

After creating a work order and placing a device in say U10, after pressing Save and Close how can I change the location of the device, to say U12?

I can't seem to drag and drop the device to the new location with the work order automatically updating.  Is there any way of doing this without either completing the work order and then moving the device or cancelling the work order and starting again?

Hi James,

Currently, there is no way to update tasks that are linked to assets, e.g. change the destination U of a server move. As you've discovered, one way around this is to either complete or cancel the work order, and then create a new one.

If you have a large work order and only want to change some of the server moves, you can open the work order, and complete and/or cancel only those tasks relating to the moves that you want to change. You can then save and close the work order, and the servers will be free to move again. If you want to add a new move of those servers to the same work order, simply open the work order again and drag and drop the servers.

I hope this helps. Please post again if you run into any issues.

Regards,

Torben

Thanks for the answer Torben, I definitely think this should be a feature within DCO. I will raise a feature request for it.

Søren,

Can I also ask that the feature requests included modifying network connections on a work order?

Currently if you provision a network cable save and close then try to modify it in the WO you get a disconnect and then a new connect line

I have also noticed that you can change a provisioned network cable route from outside of the WO.  If you complete the WO it will keep the new route in even though the WO will only show the original planned connection.

Hi James, The feature request is in general on editing work orders which then also should include network connections. Regarding the change of route I will investigate if this is planned (and then should be reflected in the WO) or if this is a bug.
