Hi Luke,
I'm going to first assume that the current repository is the local repository. If you add another repository, DCE will start using it based on it's settings. You can add a repository but the system itself will determine when it is time to use the remote repository. You can also set it to "Use Remote Storage Only" in which case it should start using the remote immediately. You can also migrate the data to the remote repository.
If on the other hand you have a local repository and also have a current remote but are adding yet another remote, there is no way to command the system to use one remote over the other. You can still command it to use remote only but you can not specify which. The system will also send the data to whichever repository it deems correct. I have no algorithm for this.
In either case, you can add a remote repository and the system will use it.
