Best practice: Work around for modelling rack ATS

Rack mount PDUs cannot be powered from a rack mounted ATS. This provides a problem for customers who has rack ATS's in their racks.

From multiple encounters with customers with this issue, below we describe the most common work around and the pros and cons.

• Power each of the rack PDUs (A- and B-feed) as normally to the PDU or the power panel.
• Add the rack ATS (AP7724) to the rack and mount it in the correct position.
• For the single PSU servers that should be powered from the rack ATS; power them from one of the rack PDUs.

PROS:

• Correct inventory reports
• Correct U-space reporting
• Power Denpency and Simulate Impact will function from the rack PDU level and upwards.

CONS:

• Depending on the number of single PSU servers the estimated load on the rack PDUs might be skewed.
• The rack ATS will not show up on the Power Dependency View and the Simulate Impact reports.

Thank you Christian for your workaround but nowhere can I find what future version of DCO that rack ATS's will be implemented or if they will.  We use APC AP7723 ATS's in our racks and would definitely like to map this feature correctly within DCO.  Could you advise what future version that this might be included in DCO?
