I now have the root password for my StruxureLab (Appliance) DCE server, I have tried to discover this using ITO - as Greg stated in another post. It looks to me that it is almost there but the following error is seen in the ITO discoveries tab in the ITO web GUI:
SNMP | 16:06:45 | INFO | Successfully connected. |
SSH | 16:06:45 | INFO | Successfully connected. |
16:06:48 | INFO | Unable to find serial number for device typeOMServer - not saving. |
Any ideas why it's not finding the serial number?

Which version of DCE? I can re-test this here.
An ITO discovery returns the message "Unable to find serial number for device typeOMServer - not saving." when:
Usually item #2 is in-play. Given this is a DCE discovery you're using SSH.
Is your ITO server configured to use "sudo"? If yes, then sudo is being used to execute the commands necessary to complete discovery. If the sudoers files is not setup properly on the DCE server this would likely cause discovery to fail as the "sudo

Hi Greg, thanks for the reply - I am using DCE version 7.2.6 as I have not yet upgraded it yet. Yes the ITO has the sudo text line you sent me off-line (I can now discover my 4 x DCO servers now) I can log in to the DCE server using Putty and WinSCP and can see the file structure - is there another sudo line I need to add to the ITO config file? Thanks!

Greg Sterling Hi Greg, I have upgraded my DCE server to version 7.2.7 and still no joy in discovering it in ITO - have you been able to discover DCE in your lab? is there another sudo line needed in the ITO config file?

John. Is your DCE server a VMware guest or a physical host? If its a guest, then ITO will skip the discovery as it skips guests by default. I reran the experiment on a new DCE 7.2.7 server today... this server had a known root password. I created a discovery in ITO which uses SSH and SNMP with the root credentials. Enabled SSH on the DCE server, ran the discovery and it worked.
