Hi,
I have a IT security high risk for assigning a default community string on DCE server. How we can mitigate the risk ?
I would like to have a support regards to community string on server as " Public". What is the impact if i change this string to a new name on Data Center Expert server.

Dear Shaik Mahboob Ali,
From your question:

You are right, it can be a security vulnerability. Therefore, as a rule, it is strongly recommended by all device manufacturers to change the default name:
And of course this secret strings should be kept secret.

Of course, the above SNMP community strings must first be changed on all of your SNMP enabled devices. And then make similar changes in the DCE software accordingly. For example, how to do this in DCE software is clearly visible from my screenshot:
I.e., go to the Device -> SNMP Device Comminication Settings... -> Device Scan Settings... Then mark all needed your SNMP devices by Selecte/Deselect All checkbox. After that press on the button Edit Device Scan Settings... and make corresponding changes about Read Comminity and Write Community strings.
If you did everything correctly, then you will be protected from a security vulnerability and do not lose monitoring of all your SNMP enabled devices in DCE software.
With respect.
