recently i was trying to add one DDF of Ortea SIRIUS 3P_V3 and while adding that DDF , suddenly it has started malfunctioning and all the preloaded ddf are not showing there .
Now i am unable to add any ddf , need a logical reason and solution for this incident .

Hi jyoti,
I'm going to assume that something simple such as the reboot of DCE has not helped.
Assuming that, you'll need to contact your local technical support as they can potentially access your system if you can allow a remote session and through that, may be able to delete the DDF if that is what truly caused the issue and assuming that's all that was done to the system. They can also potentially look at the logs to see if there's something specific going on that they can find.
If you have a recent backup, you may want to redeploy (if you have a VM) or restore (if you have a hardware server) and re-import the backup prior to adding this DDF.
I have seen strange issues where a system may fail to fully boot if an improperly created or edited DDF but I have not seen the issue you're suggesting. If this DDF did come from our DDF writers, I'm sure it's been tested in DCE and did not in it's default state cause the issue.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve
Thanks for your suggestion , Can you tell , is it possible to add/remove the builtin ddf manually ?
As i saw in my system , Built in DDF of SNMP devices doesn't have any options to add/remove .
But i can able to add/remove other ddfs which was uploaded manually . But preloaded DDF were fixed .
Thanks
Jyoti

Hi jyoti,
Most default DDF files don't have the option to be removed. Most 3rd party DDFs can be. There is a flag in the actual code that makes it delete-able or not. So unless you got a hold of a default DDF, edited the version to be higher than what was already on the system, changed that flag to allow delete, then added it, you should not be able to delete most default DDFs.
If you look here, I have the Symmetra EBS selected and the "Remove" button is grayed out:
But as you see here, I have a number of 3rd party DDFs and when I select one, the "Remove" button is activated:
So if you have some Symetra DDFs, a few Veris DDFs ,MGE DDFs but other 3rd party DDFs are gone, they could have been manually removed. If you have none what-so-ever, then there's something strange happening. I would doubt they were all deleted but there may be something in a specific DDF that when read, is causing something where the DDFs are not being shown in the UI.
You have checked from another system, yes?
If you've added a device with this new DDF (and are sure that's exactly when it started) can you remove the device?
Not sure what else to suggest without remote access.
Do you have a backup?
Steve

Hi Steve
Thanks again for your elaborate description . That is my doubt that i cant see any one DDF file , even the preloaded DDF was not there . As in Diris A40 is not even showing , as i am using this device .all sensors are showing unplugged . then i saw in Modbus DDF section there was 0 DDFs
Another system means , from any other PC right ? Still didn't checked from any other PC. Just did one thing uninstalled the DCE client from my PC , reinstalled and checked if it work. But there was no result .
Most sad part in my case is I have no backup of DCE .

Hi jyoti,
Did you get a chance to contact support on this issue or did you just do a restore of the system?

Hi Steve
I have communicated with support contract from India. As per their suggested guideline i have updated the DCE version into 7.6.0 . But still it is showing the same problem. Sometime one or two MODBUS DDF are showing in the box , but after some moment again it is showing that blank box .
In this connection , i have written a mail to support contact person (Mr.Ganesh Ghosh) on 12.06.2019 .

Hi jyoti,
The DDF needs to be removed from the system. Upgrading DCE would only help if the upgrade included a new DDF to replace that one. there are 2 options:
1: restore the server and start again or bring in a backup from before this DDF was added
2: Request the ticket be escalated so that a support representative can remotely access your system and remove that DDF using root access.
I do not believe there is another option.
I checked under your name and e-mail and I find no cases so I could not comment and suggest they contact you back.
Ganesh Ghosh does not appear to be a tech support person so I can't say what ability he may have to resolve this technical issue but I can ask him to speak to a local technical support person or escalation point for actual technical assistance.
