We have a physical StruXureWare Data Center Expert appliance with 124 devices and need to copy all the devices to the new virtual appliance before shutting down the physical appliance. The new appliance currently has 75 device licenses, so I've duplicated 75 of the devices over to the virtual DCE. I now want to remove those licenses/devices from the old DCE so I can add the licenses to the new one and thus add more devices. How do I do so?
Thanks.

You'll need to call into support and they will deactivate your old licenses and create new virtual licenses to correspond with the ones they just deactivated and send those to you.

When we moved from physical to virtual, there was a "grace period" where they both were monitored, to make sure we got everything moved correctly, before we shut down the physical server. Call into support and they'll explain it all to you.

Thanks for the reply. I have a 100 pack and a 25 pack. I'd like to deactivate the 100 pack and move it to the new appliance before the 25 pack as there are a handful of devices that I need to reset before I can move them. When the licenses get deactivated how does DCE "choose" which devices to stop monitoring?

Hi Dominic,
Thanks for your post. To migrate licenses from a physical to a virtual machine, you will also need to have a software support contract for all the nodes you wish to transfer. Since the physical DCE comes with 25 nodes pre-installed, this will not be migrated. The 100 nodes will only be migrated. When you buy the virtual machine activation code it will unlock the 20 nodes. So in total, you should have 125 nodes on the virtual machine when the migration is complete. Once tech support have verified your software support contract, they will be able to migrate the 100 node license for you. We would need the MAC address of the physical machine and the passcode (if possible), used on the physical machine when you redeemed the passcode to generate the license key.
Regards,
Breda
