How can I Add APC Rack PDU in StruxureWare Data Center 7.2

I am new to APC StruxureWare Data Center Expert 7.2 which is older version

I want to add devices in it for realtime monitoring. Please guide me how to add following devices?

a. APC Rack PDU Model: A8853

b. PowerLogic PM5560

c. Dell Power Edge 2950 / R620

d. HP Proliant DL G6/G7/G8/G9 Servers

Let me know if additional modules are required for that? Also I want to upgrade the entire StruxureWare Data Center Expert to latest??

Hi Abdullah,

In order to add a device to DCE software, you can follow the instructions provided in the public K-base document ID: FA177081

How to add a device to DCE?

You can add devices by going to “Device-> Add Devices…” in the Data Center Expert client or by right clicking in the monitoring perspective and choosing "Add Devices".

Add Device–>SNMP v1 or choose the respective protocol type of the device–>Specify the device IP address–>follow the next steps.

AP8853 uses SNMP v1 or V3. You can choose SNMP v1 by default for AP8853.

As far as I know, Servers like Dell Power Edge 2950 / R620 and HP Proliant DL G6/G7/G8/G9 Servers are not meant to be monitored in DCE software.

Reg. DCE software upgrade version, you will need to contact your country technical support for receiving the upgrade version download links. Note: Your DCE software should be under software support contract for receiving the links.

I hope that this helps.

Regards,

Bala

I have added PowerLogic PM5560 power meter, but data is not retrieving from that device to show in DCE. Also please guide me about Email Setting configuration as currently an error appears " Unable to reach SMTP server". How can i verify that the SMTP server ip is pingable from DCE server? Regards, Abdullah Shifa.

Dear Abdullah, For Power Logic PM5560, I would suggest to verify if the required DDF file is added in DCE in order to view the Device Sensors values in DCE. You can contact Multivendorsupport@apcc.com for the required DDF file depending upon the type of the product(SNMP or Modbus over TCP). Regarding email issue, it could be related to SMTP permission issue. Please check with SMTP server admin to see if the DCE server IP address is white listed. Please also verify if the following details are entered correctly. SMTP Server IP Address SMTP port number Valid Primary DNS and Secondary DNS IP Address Valid Domain Name Does your SMTP require authentication? If so, please enter the authentication details. Also make sure that from email address and DCE IP address are white listed in your exchange server/SMTP server. Secondly, You can refer the below K-base document which can help you to create the email notification policy. FA225766 http://www.apc.com/site/support/us/en/faq/?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA225766&red... Regards, Bala

Thanks for the response. We have now successfully configured SMTP server for email alerts after disabling and changing the Network configuration for Private (LAN2) which conflicts with Public (LAN1).

Dear Bala, "You refer the below K-base document which can help you to create the email notification policy. FA225766" we have read it but we still we are unable to send emails with multiple notification policies to send alerts to different peoples i.e one notification policy has created for Failure and Critical alerts to a group of peoples and second notification policy has created for Warnings, Errors and Critical alerts to another group of people so how can we set multiple notification policies on a same device group?

Hi Bala, We want to create multiple notifications for different threshold to send email on different groups ? How can we do that as we tried but only one notification policy can be assigned on a device group? Example: i.e one notification policy has created for Failure and Critical alerts to a group of peoples and second notification policy has created for Warnings, Errors and Critical alerts to another group of people so how can we set multiple notification policies on a same device group?

Hi Abdullah, As far as I know in DCE, Custom Thresholds can be associated to multiple Notification Policy. However, Devices can be associated to any one notification policy only.

No, Devices can be associated to a single notification policy. As I mentioned, Custom thresholds which were created for the devices can be associated with multiple notification policy. Therefore, you can create custom thresholds for the devices which can be associated with multiple notification policy.
