We've recently upgraded our environment to 7.5.0 and have noticed some significantly functionality change/loss in Work Orders. Once a Work Order is saved, any Task for planned equipment objects cannot being altered or removed if the work order is re-opened. We are aware of the Locking a work order additional function, however we are experiencing this on Work Orders of which are NOT locked.
In previous versions, we were able to re-open a work order and alter the equipment within that work order. This typically consisted of moving planned equipment from within that work order to another location or cancel planned equipment objects as a whole and then re-saving. These types of edits from within an existing work order were numerous as we have multiple equipment planners working on a single work order as well as significant change in projects/purchases develop well prior to final execution, and we need to track all the potential equipment plans through out the process.
Now once a work order is saved, equipment objects become unmovable and if you cancel a task for that equipment item it still remains as cancelled task, rather than being removing from the task list even though it was not assigned, not started, and was prior to required date. We find that task can still be reorder and adhoc task can be deleted, but any equipment-base task is unalterable.
This change is genuinely impacting on our time and business process. If there are major changes needing to be made within a work order we are having to cancel and completely re-create in a new work order. If minor changes are needed we are having to cancel a bunch of tasks and re-add the exact same equipment to another location and re-input all of the field data into those objects, as well as live with a bunch of cancelled task that will continually show up in our task list.
Is this new functionality expected, unintentional, or possible issue in our environment?

Hi Jeff, Thank for your detailed description of your issue. I'm assuming that you have been updating from version 7.4.5. The new "Locked work orders" should not interfere with the way that the existing work orders works. But I have to admit that I'm a bit puzzled with the expected behaviour that you describe. I did a quick test of the following in 7.5, 7.4.5 and 7.4: Record a work order consisting of adding one server to a rack - this results in a work order with two tasks. 1: adding the server to the rack and 2: connecting the power cable. While the work order is open it is possible to move the server to another position - but once it is saved it is no longer possible to move it to another location. I might be that I do not understand your issue completely - therefore my suggestion is that we set up a screen sharing session where you demonstrate your issue in order for us to better understand it. We will take a deeper look at this Monday morning with a couple of our developers in order to see what kind of code changes we have had in this area in the last couple of releases. We will reach out to you Monday in order to agree on the next steps. We will do our best to make sure that we fix the issue that you are experiencing. Best Regards Anders

This is exactly the same issue I have and I raised it in a question HERE.
Would also like to add you can not re-open a task once it is closed. For example if you have a WO to install two servers on it (two separate tasks) then set one task to complete and save the WO but realise this was the wrong server there is no way to set that task back to In Progress (or Not Started) even though the WO is still open.
Also if you assign a name to a device when originally opening the WO any changes made to that name before completing the WO are not reflected in the task heading.

Hi Jeff
When a work order is created with a task involving a piece of rack mountable equipment (for example a server or blade chassis), the piece of equipment is locked. Until the task has been applied or cancelled the equipment cannot be moved. This has been the case for work orders in Operations since they were added. So there is no previous version of Operations that has had this functionality.
However please note that when the task that locks the equipment has been applied, the work order can be updated with a new task where the equipment can be moved somewhere else. This is of interest since it preserves for example custom properties, tags or power connections to the equipment that was part of the first work order update.
There is a feature request that captures updating work orders in the way you have described. I have updated the feature request to reflect that you also have an interest in this.
Best,
Niels Kjeldsen
