Is there anyway to delete backup through DCE, either from the client or via SSH? At the moment we have numerous full backups on our remote share drive that need deleting.
Also it it common to have a backup at 50GB for a solution that has 3 years worth of data and 150 nodes polling every 5 minutes?

Hi James,
The backups reside on your remote windows or NFS share. There is no way in DCE to delete these files. You must log on to the share itself to delete the actual files.
As for file size, that can be very different on different installs. We don't currently track this but it doesn't seem that huge for 3 years. You can purge data, alarms, clips(if yo have NetBotz) if you feel this is getting too large.
Steve.

Thanks Steven Marchetti. It would be good to set a limit, like in DCO, on the number of days worth of backups kept or indeed the ability to remove backups.
Appreciate it can be difficult to give an answer on file size but welcome the guidance.

Hi James,
I think there is an enhancement request in the system for this. I'll add this post to the request but I can't say that it'll end up being addressed.

P.S. I checked on this and currently, they are not looking to add this feature. If we get enough interest that may change. I've added your post though.

It is difficult for us as our backups like yourself James are rather large around the 50GB mark as well. We have resorted to running scripts on the destination server drive that deletes files over a certain age period. Our biggest issue is that as the backup traverses several Networks, a full backup will take anything up to 20 hours to perform. Alternative means of backing up our VM via VM tools/Avamar/disk cloning etc have proved to be incompatible causing log outs & server unresponsiveness (I refer to my other post). A better way of managing backups would be a step in the right direction.

Hi Steve how I can add my interest to this feature request. Should I open a new request?
Thank

Steven Marchetti - I have changed the backup to sync but the date stamp on the remote mount hasn't updated, it still has a date of two weeks ago, however everything in DCE suggests the backup has been successful. Is this correct?
