Hi
We're using DCE to monitor a number of UPS devices, but for our 5 Smart-UPS 1500's (SMT1500RMI2U) DCE isn't pulling through the host name. This is configured and the UPS is up to the latest firmware revision.
The label is pulled through and showing fine.
Thanks

Matt,
DCE pulls hostnames from your DNS server. Ensure that your DNS server has forward and reverse lookups for the units. After the change, it may take a period of time to show up properly within DCE.

Do the UPS' in question have their FQDN setup in your networks DNS servers? If not that is usually the culprit
Also make sure your DNS servers are listed in your DCE's network settings

Thanks for the replies guys.
The UPS do have DNS entries, but now I think about it, there's no reverse lookup for the IP range they are on. I guess until we have that then they'll just stay as IP addresses.

Hi Matt,
The hostname is actually not pulled from the device / NMC itself rather from DNS. Please be sure there is a forward and reverse lookup entry in your DNS for this Smart-UPS. Please also make sure the proper DNS entries are in the DCE server. You can also test the lookup by going to the DCE server's web page and clicking on "Status" on the top. Select "Troubleshoot Network" and choose "resolve host" Then add the server's IP and click submit. This should return the hostname. You can also add the hostname to that field and submit and it should return the IP.
Thanks,
Steve
