Hello,
With StruxureWare Central 7.0.0 we're used SMTP relay (port 25 with authentification) to send emails at SMS gate.
Now we have to use another email server, but it looks like all unsecured SMTP services are gone.
We're tried to use different settings.
SSL (port 465) - can't connect to server.
TLS (port 587 and 'Secure SMTP' checked) - server replies with '530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first'.
It looks that we don't have STARTTLS extension at our server. Can we install it? Is it possible generally? Do newer versions of DCE have it already installed?

Specify, please, exactly your version of the DCE-server.

According to DCE-instruction Email Settings, we have:
Select Secure SMTP (Requires STARTTLS extension) to use the Secure SMTP protocol for communication between the StruxureWare Data Center Expert and SMTP servers.
That is, the STARTTLS extension must be installed on your secure mail server.

Hi Vladim,
7.0.0 is quite old. We are currently at 7.4.3 and there have been many updates since. I believe starttls is currently in use but in any case, no access to install components to the Strucureware OS is provided.

Hi Vladim,
I wasn't able to look into this during my initial response but I think your issue may be something other than starttls. I checked our bug logging system and starttls should have been added as far back as ISXC 6.2.0. If there is something else in DCE that is causing it, remember we can't fully support your current build, you'd need to upgrade

So just for a quick test, I checked that off and tried an e-mail test. I received an error as my test server apparently doesn't support starttls:
I'll have to see if I can find a server that does and see if I can install it in the lab. May take a little time. As spezialist suggested though, if you install the new VM, you can see if the newer system does work. That's the only way to fix it if it's a 7.0 issue, upgrade. You can't add your own modules to it.

Hi Vadim,
Just a quick update, I got admin access to the 2 different e-mail servers in my support lab and neither support starttls. Again, the quickest way to tell is to install a 7.4.3 VM and test on your e-mail server. There will be no update to make 7.0.0 work if it is indeed failing so upgrading would be your only avenue. Since I'm not seeing this issue from other customers, I'm assuming it's not an issue with the current offering. If that is indeed the case and DCE 7.4.3 works, it's an issue with 7.0 and an upgrade is needed to resolve your issue. If 7.4.3 does not work, it sounds like possibly a config issue with your e-mail server. but you'll need to test before we even consider that.

I looked at your various test settings in the old DCE-server for secure SMTP: thanks for the detailed answer.
And yet, I strongly recommend checking out the version of Steven Marchetti, i.e. test the secure SMTP settings, but with the latest version of DCE-7.4.3. This check can be easily accomplished by downloading DCE VM from the DCE Virtual Machine. This VM is for VMware, but works fine on VirtualBox 😀. I hope you do this and report the result.
