DCE SNMPv3 communication issue

We are running DCE 7.4.3 but meet this issue with previous versions

we are monitoring Emerson PDU and IBM PDU through SNMPv3

From time to time DCE loose the connection with some PDUs and the connectivity never come back to normal unless rebooting DCE (for example when the PDU card is restarted)...
and as there is no SNMP logging in DCE, it is difficult to investigate...

Any recommendation about SNMPv3 configuration? polling, timeout, number of retries, authentication and privacy types?

~ 200 Emerson and IBM PDU

We hesitate to reconfigure all our PDU with SNMPv1 even if it is less secure...

Hi Yannick BARRAUD,

From time to time DCE loose the connection with some PDUs and the connectivity never come back to normal unless rebooting DCE (for example when the PDU card is restarted)...

I.e., the communication was restored only after rebooting the DCE-server or only after rebooting the PDU card?

and as there is no SNMP logging in DCE, it is difficult to investigate...

This is not quite true: in your case, you need to do  and then carefully examine the entries in the logfile /var/log/messages, that relate to your problematic SNMP v3 devices. For more information on this logfile see my answer in topic .

With respect.

In addition, in the DCE-client on the problem SNMP v3 device, did you try to do "Request Device Scan"?

Thanks for this helpul link.
I already request to see DCE log (https://dcimsupport.apc.com/questions/110008012) but I was told there is not scan log

Rebooting the PDU card has no impact, I have to reboot DCE to restore the communication.

An additional question: on the PDU card side, you looked at the corresponding logfiles or is it impossible? Maybe there you will find the answer?

With respect.

Request Device Scan has no effect on the communication issue

I checked the messages logfile but I can only see this error

Mar  8 08:26:05 nbSNMPScan: failScan: Marking scan of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx with SCAN_FAILED resultcode.

Ok, this is the result πŸ˜€.

Tell, please, does this SNMP v3 device poll only one DCE-server or do you have multiple DCE-servers?

Or maybe you have another monitoring system that can poll your SNMP v3 devices?

Additional question: in the Device -> SNMP Device Settings -> Device Scan Settings -> Edit Device Scan Settings menu, have you tried to change the Scan Interval (minutes), Timeout (seconds) and Retries settings (increase them)?

Dear juice,

I have not tried it, because it was not necessary. Therefore, I asked you to try it πŸ˜€.
