DCE AP9465 Web access problem

Hello support,

 

I'll try to keep it short and simple.

 

I unpacked a new AP9465 (DCE 7.8.0) at my customer site and tried to configure according to customer requirements, but its private Lan GB1 was only responding to my ping commands but I couldn't open its web page.

 

Then today I spoke with the customer and they said they can now access the web page using the iDRAC port.

 

Can anyone explain what just happened here ?

 

Actually I'm working with DCE customers from over 6 years but I never had interaction with iDRAC stuff.

 

Please tell me if that server was configured to use only iDRAC port or I was missing something.

And how do I learn more about setting up an iDRAC dce machine for future customers.

 

Kindly clear up my concerns and explain with details, I will be so grateful to you 🙂

 

I will share the model serial Mac adds etc, when required.

I too have just unboxed the same spec DCE and Gb2 port is doing the same thing its giving me an IP responding to pings but no web access or DCE client access!

 

can anyone help??

Hi, 

 

Just wondering if you guys have access locally to the DCE server via monitor? There's a step for new servers that comes with 7.8.0 preloaded where we need to set up new passwords for default usernames (due to California state legislature security updates) before we can actually access DCE Webpage using https (by default). 

 

I couldn't find the kb related to this but as I recall for new servers that ship with 7.8.0 require such initial setup.

Hi,

 

TJ's correct - the shortcut of connecting to the private LAN no longer works starting in 7.8.0; there's no default user anymore (one is created during setup), and the web service won't start without any available users.

 

The apcsetup instructions in https://www.se.com/ww/en/faqs/FA234266/ are still valid as this requires physical access. On newer servers the same console should be available via serial port (I believe since April 2020) - but I can't provide much instruction yet as I don't have any servers new enough to try this myself.

 

It's worth noting you're also required to change the passwords for the service accounts (apcsetup, apcreset, etc) during the first setup - I strongly recommend documenting these during installation, as recovering the admin account is much more difficult without that apcreset password!

Hi,

 

This might work better as it's own topic so it doesn't get lost - but I'm curious what tools you're missing?  For myself, I find ping & snmpwalk do 90% of what I need - some tools for diagnosing modbus connections are really the only thing I'd be missing.

 

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but as we're not allowed to embed a full commandline, concrete examples of what tools to expose would be useful.

 

(Given that you specifically name the desktop client; I must ask if you've checked the web UI?  If you access the DCE via  browser and follow the Status link top-right, there's some useful diagnostic functionality exposed there.)
