Is there any way to retrieve data for devices that have been removed from DCE? We recently upgraded several UPS, unfortunately no export was done of the historical data prior to removing the devices from DCE. Is it possible to query the DCE database directly?

Hi Umar
If the device is removed from DCE, then you'll need to restore a backup somewhere, with all the care and caution that entails.
Best way I found to manage devices removed from the network, is to place them into (permanent) maintenance mode and moved them to a different group. Not that this helps you right now.
Let us all know how you go.
Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply Ed. So you're saying run a second DCE server and restore a backup prior to the device removals?
In hindsight, your method of dealing with removed devices is definitely the way to go.

Yup
Been a while since I did this mucking about but i recall you may have to restore to your current DCE server (because of MAC address?) which means something like:
1 take a backup
2 restore the old backup with the required device data
3 do something with the data including take it off the DCE server
4 restore the backup from step 1
A bit of mucking about as i say and your prod system will be offline so you want to know exactly what you want to do in step 3 to minimise DCE downtime. If you can restore to a diff server whilst yours still running even better, perhaps a local VM?
I hope that makes sense.
Cheers

Thanks Ed, that sounds like a plan. I've received word we may not need the old data now but if we do proceed with the backup/restore/restore I will post back here and let you know if it worked!
