I was running my favorite SNMP Agent and ran across an issue with the AP8959 PDU. I didn't see this issue on any other device.
The Netmask is returned as 0.0.0.0, not displayed properly, even though there is a value in the device when you log into it. When walking the IP address of the PDU (.1.3.6.1.2.1.4.20) I get this:
ipAddrTable.ipAddrEntry.ipAdEntNetMask.
ipAddrTable.ipAddrEntry.ipAdEntNetMask.127.0.0.1 : IpAddress: 0.0.0.0
The device is as follows:
AP8959NA3
HR: 02
MD: 3/13/2012
Net Mang. Card HW Rev. 05
App Module: rpdu2g, V: 5.1.1
OS: aos v5.1.4
MB v3.8.6
Can you repair this via firmware or MIB?
Regards,
J

Hi John,
I believe this was a known issue on FW 5.1.x
I currently have my AP89XX on FW v6.13/6.1.0 and I did a walk and I am not seeing the issue.
The most recent FW for this device is below:
https://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP8959NA3&tab=software
SKU: SFRPDU2G610

So I downloaded the new DCE firmware zip file and pushed the upgrade (RPDU2G 6.1.0/6.1.3) and the whole system went crazy. I lost http connection to all of the PDUs. I get the following error in DCE "Device Status may be inaccurate because an attempt to transfer a device definition file (DDF) failed."I also received spam from all the devices that said an "Detected an unauthorized user attempting to access the FTP interface..."
I was able to push the old firmware back to the device using the InRow update tool to restore connections and bring the device back online.
I am not sure what happen but it wasn't pretty and I am not happy.
Where there any port or other major changes on the v6 firmware? Since it was a major upgrade, what has changed?

Hi John, I'm sorry to hear that you encountered this issue. How many PDU's were you trying to update via DCE? Did you download the FW catalog file from the apc website and import this or did you click on the Updates --> Apply firmware updates button through the DCE client? When you lost HTTP access to the PDU, do you know if you had any access to the PDU's using a different method? i.e Telnet, direct FTP access to the PDU using command prompt? There is an issue outlined for problems with NMC FW 6.x.x with HTTP access. The KBase is FA235265 (this is an issue over VPN though, which might not apply to your situation). I also should have noted KBase FA167693 for you as it details things to consider when upgrading to FW 6.X.X There has been numerous changes to the NMC 6.x.x FW. Some enhancements/features include: CLI command functionality enhancements, SMTP enhancements (supports encrypted email authentication using SSL/TLS) , firewall configuration, multi-user capability, new web interface, session management., export logs from the web UI, support for IPv6, support for Cisco's EnergyWise protocol on certain PDU SKU's and support for NPS (network port sharing). KBase FA176047 explains the current issues we have with FW 6.X.X Regards, Breda

Thank you for your response, I was not aware this was a known issue nor that there was an article about it. It seems that is the issue I was having and will attempt the fix or just wait until it is repaired. To answer your questions: I manually downloaded the DCE Firmware catalog from the webpage. I updated 10 PDUs, all local to the DCE server. I lost HTTP and FTP connections however I was still able to serial into the device via the serial port. Regards, J
