IIS is just for the two newer web servers. No client machines need IIS.
(Edit I forgot to answer this part of your question)
I would not have IIS installed on any computer that does not need. I do not think having IIS installed and it not being used will affect ViewX's performance. There is probably a slight difference in system memory usage.
(End Edit)
you may find this information useful in the future.
The original WebX does not use IIS.
The WebX that is a hybrid of HTML5 and the original WebX's ActiveX uses IIS.
The Virtual ViewX server use ISS.
So where ever one of two are installed requires IIS. If neither of these are installed on the Database server then you do not need IIS on the database server.
The web server for Virtual ViewX can be installed on a separate server than the database server.

Thank you Geoff,
one extra note - IIS is also required for all server installs of Geo SCADA 2021. This is because the web service port (used by WebX) is also user by ViewX for scripting.
So, unless you are going to either (a) use your own reverse proxy or (b) have no TLS or only TLS 1.1 security on this port, you must install the IIS components for all servers.
Please check the 2021 release notes which explains the setup.

Thanks Steve I probably would have found that out the hard way since I did not notice that, and the only 2021 I have installed has Virtual ViewX installed with the database server so it has IIS.
