Geo SCADA On Screen Keyboard Location

Hi forum,

Need some advise. Our application was designed on Geo SCADA 2019 and running on a Magelis iPC. This is a touch screen panel, and therefore we have enabled the on screen keyboard for operator control. The issues we have are the following:

1. The onscreen keyboard shows up in front of the input dialog box. Often operators need to move this across in order to view what's been entered. How do I prevent this?

2. When typing in username/password the onscreen keyboard is tiny. This makes key selection a challenge. Is there a way to make the on screen keyboard larger?

3. When typing in a numerical setpoint, a num pad keyboard is displayed, the same challenges as mentioned above apply but also there is no enter key on this keypad. The result is then a) the operator needs to move the keypad to the side (as it is overlapping the dialog) b) then enter his setpoint with the onscreen keypad and finally c) click back onto the dialog to accept setpoint. Surely there has to be a better way?

When you say that you have enabled the on screen keyboard.  Which one do you mean?

Do you mean the ViewX internal one from the General Tab of the Options window 'Enable On-Screen Keyboard', or do you mean the on screen keyboard that is available from the Magelis touch panel? [I think you do mean the inbuilt ViewX version]

I would generally expect the ViewX in built keyboard to be 'better' in not overlapping with control items etc.

If you are finding that it does overlap, and in general not work well, then you should really raise a ticket for it with your local Schneider tech support.  It's possible that it's just not used by many people, and hasn't been tested well with recent changes to the ViewX environment (like with the newer windowing toolkit used in ClearSCADA 2017 and above).

It might be worth investigating the Magelis on-screen keyboard in the meantime to see if that is a better fit.

It's definitely worth providing your feedback (to Schneider Tech Support) on any issues that you find with the ViewX in-built on-screen keyboard.

If you don't complain, they won't know there's any issue, and it won't be improved/fixed 🙂

Hi,

i'm having the same problem as your, Geo SCADA built-in on-screen keyboard is showing in front of dialog boxes, meaning I have to move the on-screen keyboard to be able to hit "OK" button.

Did you hear anything from support?

SE support was unable to provide a solution to the issue. We have since disabled the GeoSCADA on-screen keyboard and rather use the Windows on-screen keyboard by sideswiping on the touch panel to show/hide the keyboard. Not ideal but at least the keyboard location can be configured.
