Misconfigured BBMDs lead to BACnet Discovery not working as expected OR generates too much traffic that can lead to denial of service.
Current Solution:
Create list of BBMD BDT Table entries, including 3rd Party routers onsite
Check all BBMDs to make sure itself and all others are listed. Use Teach & Learn to make sure all are configured
Check all BBMDs to make sure more than 1 is configured per Broadcast Domain (aka Subnets)
Proposed Solution:
RULES:
1 BBMD per Broadcast Domain (aka Subnet)
Each BBMD will list itself and all other BBMDs on sit, so total number of BBMDs is number of entries per BBMD. Use EBO BBMD Teach & Learn (Reference WebHelp) to manage BBMD BDT Entries.
PROVIDE TABLE IN THE REPORT THAT LOOKS LIKE THIS:
BDT ENTRY
BBMD IP ADDRESS
Count of BDT Entries
Missing from X other BBMD Tables
3rd Party Device
Associated ES/AS Name
Broadcast Address
Key Value
Nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn
Integer
Integer
Y/N
String
Nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn
Identify all EBO BBMD objects and collect data of their IP Port -> IP address & Broadcast Address, their host server name, and count of BBMD entries. Enter with 3rd Party Device = NO.
Find all BBMDs and their BDT entries. Find any unique addresses not listed in previous step and add BDT Entry with 3rd Party = YES, and N/A in Associated ES/AS Name and Broadcast Address.
BDT ENTRY COLUMN is BDT Entry is key value for table. Highest Key Value is number of BBMDs onsite. There is no correlation between this number and any other column.
BBMD IP ADDRESS: BBMD at this IP address
Flag if 2 IP address could be within smallest possible broadcast domain
COUNT OF BDT ENTRIES: If not matching highest BDT Entry, then flag with issue. If number of BDT Entries matches, then flag “OPTIMUM CONFIG”
MISSING FROM X other BBMD Tables: Find the number of BBMDs NOT listing this address. If zero, then flag “OPTIMUM CONFIG”
3rd Party Device: differentiated EBO configured BBMD and BBMD by others
Associated ES/AS Name: Helps identify BBMD with configuration issues
Broadcast Address: Since BBMD should be 1 per Broadcast Domain, these should be unique. If not unique, then flag.
