Upgrading Continuum from 1.5x to Continuum 1.9x

Issue

What is the best way to upgrade Continuum Single User system from 1.5x to 1.9x?

Product Line

Andover Continuum

Environment

  • Continuum 1.5x, 1.5, V1.5
  • Continuum 1.6x, 1.6, V1.6
  • Continuum 1.9x, 1.9, V1.9
  • SQL Server

Cause

Continuum Upgrade from older versions of Continuum.

Resolution

First upgrade to 1.74, then upgrade from 1.74 to 1.9x.   

PART I - Preparation:

  1. Acquire all software necessary to bring the workstations into compliance with 1.9x platform requirements.
  2. For each Cyberstation machine, make a record of the following
    1. Workstation name
    2. Folder name
    3. Device Node ID
    4. Network ID.
  3. From https://ecobuilding.schneider-electric.com
    1. Download Cyberstation 1.74
    2. Download Cyberstation 1.9x
  4. Download Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express
  5. Run Continuum Analyzer and resolve any issues.  An upgrade should not be done until the analyzer test report is clean.
  6. IMPORTANT - Make a backup of the Continuum database just prior to upgrading.

PART II - Upgrade Workstation 1 (Database server PC)

Uninstall 1.5x or 1.6x

  1. Shut down the Cyberstation applications on all workstations.
  2. Power down the workstations that are not running SQL and leave off until Part III
  3. Backup the contents of C:\Program Files\Continuum\UserProfile by copying contents to a flash drive or another folder.
  4. Backup the contents of the graphics file directory to a flash drive or another folder.
  5. Delete C:\Program Files\Continuum
  6. Uninstall SQL from Workstation 1 (DB server)

Install 1.74

  1. Install Continuum 1.74  (SQL 2000 SP4 will be installed automatically as part of the install)
  2. Run Database Initialization
  3. Create new database
  4. Initialize workstation using information from Part I.
  5. Launch Continuum to test that Cyberstation startup normally.
  6. Shut down Continuum
  7. Run Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express
  8. Navigate to ContinuumDB and Right Click
  9. Restore database backup from PART I
  10. Run Database Initialization.
  11. Update Continuum DB
  12. Update Workstation using information form Part I
  13. Launch continuum and verify that everything looks normal.
  14. Verify the integrity of the database by running Continuum Analyzer and correct any database issues before proceeding..
  15. Run Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express
  16. Navigate to ContinuumDB and Right Click
  17. Backup Database – name file so that it is clearly 1.74

Uninstall 1.74

  1. Uninstall Continuum
  2. Delete C:\Program Files\Continuum
  3. Uninstall SQL from Workstation 1

Install 1.9x

  1. Install all platform software necessary to bring the workstation into compliance with Continuum 1.9x requirements.
  2. Install Continuum 1.9x - (SQL Express will be installed automatically as part of the install)
  3. Run Continuum Database Initialization
  4. Create new database
  5. Update workstation with information from Part I.
  6. Launch Continuum to test that Cyberstation startup normally
  7. Shut down Continuum
  8. Run Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express
  9. Navigate to ContinuumDB and Right Click
  10. Restore 1.74 database backup.
  11. Run Continuum Database Initialization
  12. Update database
  13. Update workstation with information from Part I.
  14. Launch Continuum and verify that everything looks good.
  15. Run Continuum Analyzer and verify the integrity of the database.
  16. Backup Database

PART III - Upgrade Workstation 2 and 3

  1. Install all platform software necessary to bring the workstation into compliance with Continuum 1.9x requirements.
  2. Backup the contents of C:\Program Files\Continuum\UserProfile by copying contents to a flash drive or another folder.
  3. Uninstall Continuum from Workstation 
  4. Delete C:\Program Files\Continuum
  5. Install Continuum 1.9x
  6. Run DB Initialization and update database and workstation.
  7. Launch Continuum and verify that all looks well.
  8. Backup Database
