Issue
The BACnet Ethernet driver on an I/A Series R2 Enterprise Server cannot open the Ethernet device, preventing BACnet over Ethernet communication. The following error appears in the station's Standard Output:
ERROR: Cannot start Ethernet Packet Driver
tridium.nre.DriverException: Cannot open \\Device\\E100B1 [ethernet]

Cause
Resolution
- Verify that BACnet Ethernet communication is required for your application.
- Install and configure the host link-layer support driver as described in the BACnet Supervisor Reference:
- Refer to pages 1-20 to 1-24 in the BACnet Supervisor Reference.
- The document is located in:
\\niagara\\docs\\BACnet
- Restart the Enterprise Server after configuration changes.
- Confirm that the Ethernet device is accessible and properly bound to the BACnet Ethernet driver.
Note: This step is only necessary when using BACnet over Ethernet. For BACnet/IP, this configuration is not required.
