System Platform communications to M580 using OPC/UA
Our project uses AVEVA System Platform 2023 to communicate with a Schneider M580 controller.
We have successfully established communications using the MBTCP driver. However, we would prefer to use OPC/UA. Is it possible to communicate directly with the controller, or do we need a BMENUA0100 (or similar) in order to use OPC/UA?

Hello,
Yes, you need a BMENUA0100 Card due OPCUA Server. In the latest firmware versions, the OPCUA Client has been incorporated into the M580, but for your architecture you need the OPCUA Server offered by the NUA Card
Best regards
Ricard

Hi @RayLonghurst,
I believe @Ricard is correct. If you want to use OPCUA Client from System Platform, you would need the BMENUA0100 Card, that hosts the OPCUA Server.
Another approach, could be to use OFS and the OPC OI Server (it is actually a OPC DA Client) in System Platform. This would not require any additional hardware and would take advantage of OFS ability to send 1024 bytes of data with each request (Modbus TCP is limited to 256 bytes).
Let us know which approach you end up on and how it performs for you.
Kind regards
Olivier
