surge strip off (downstream) of UPS

OK here we go again...I've read the threads and do not fully understand the answers given. First I would like a surge protected outlet downstream of my UPS but only two are provided on the UPS...these will be used by my tower and monitor.....now I also have a cable modem as well as cable supplied telephone...so I would like my telephone to remain powered during an outage and also to retain surge supression thus both modem and cordless phone base would need to be plugged into UPS thru one of the battery only outlets via a surge strip ??? Now as I have read on the other posts it seems most concern was for if the VA rateing of the UPS was large enough to handle the extra power draw?? and warranty would be null and void blah blah blah....Ok I am not your average DA ..I do realize a UPS is only for back up and cannot supply unlimited power forever...So here is the question I have..AMC BR1500LCD 1500VA model with 865 watts was the model (which I have not yet bought) and my system draws approx 300VA (Iam also figured this excessive) and I had the monitor and computer shut off within 5 or 10 minutes of loosing power would the above scenereo be acceptable ??? all the remaining devices on the remaining 5 available outlets are also low power using devices...hard drives, powered usb and firewire hubs, (inkjet printer which requires constant power or the cheap refillable ink cartridges reset to full when it is powered off).....(obvious I would not be printing if my power was out...so printer status would be powered on only)...... Or is having a surge strip downstream of a UPC "TABOO" ? Is the above scenereo acceptable or do I need to be looking at using two smaller UPS's?

oh yeah...I have thought about it and thought some more and the only reason I could come to are 1) the Dumb a+* factor as you have described...a open port on a outlet strip "just begging" for someone to come along and plug into it... or 2) perhaps there is some weird auto voltage screening/allotment per say per outlet that would make your outlet (surge) strip perform like a set of cheap Chinese Christmas lights...as in the first bulb in the chain glowing brightly and the last a dim bulb....so barring any unforseen explinations , if all I have to worry about is the load my devices require vs. my storage/capacity and peak capacity ability to power them....I can do the load calculations and I will not succumb to the DA factor and plug anything into the extra slots except for perhaps a hair dryer and toaster ha ha ....Seriously all advice pertaining to this will be greatly appreciated

It's not neccessarily "Taboo". Think about it though, if someone adds a surge strip to an outlet, the odds of someone plugging in more and more devices increases, thus the chance of overloads increase.

Running a surge strip off an APC UPS does not void warranty, as long as it's an APC surge strip. This is only because APC can account for quality of the components and the setup.
