do i need extra surge protector if i already use AVR?
currently im using APC LS 1000 MS according to spec info the AVR surge protector rated for 148 joule.
i use this AVR to protect my gaming PC , and thinking about to buy surge protector for extra protection but im wondering if this necessary since i already use AVR with surge protector in it although it just 148J , Is 148 joules good enough to protect surge for my PC?
i live in third world country power dip and fluctuation happens unscheduled so i really need this avr and not planning to replace it with surge protector but im considering to daisy chain the surge protector with my avr , planning to buy APC PM5GR rated with 918 joules unfortunately the plug is schuko (EU plug) and my AVR use UK socket which i need to use coverter so it will add extra daisy chain except i plug the surge protector into wall instead of my avr which i heard is not recommended??

You would see more benefit using a UPS vs an AVR. Given the unreliable power you see on a daily basis. ☝️
A computer is more likely to become damaged and corrupted by a unscheduled hard shutdown. Even having one of the cheaper PWM (Modified Sine Wave) APC UPS would offer that protection as it could be connected to the computer via USB and gracefully shutdown by the APC Power Chute Software.
The OS and it’s Data are the most important thing on the computer! APC offers dozens of models that have various levels of surge protection and AVR capabilities. 👍
As it relates to any SPD (Surge Protection Device) they rely on a (single point) low resistance earth ground. That is below <25 Ohms to allow fault voltage to be shunted to ground.
SPD’s come in four types and each type offers specific let through voltage.
Type 1: SPD is installed at the service entrance (Meter). This provides the largest transient protection from the grid outside of the home.
Type 2: SPD is installed at the service panel (Breakers). This provides secondary protection from lesser transients and have a lower threshold of let through voltage vs Type 1. They also protect the electrical system from internally generated surge / spikes.
Type 3: These are called (POU) Point of Use. They encompass SPD outlets, power strips, UPS, etc. These devices are designed to also have a lower voltage let through / clamping when compared to Type 1 / 2 SPD.
Type 4: These SPD are installed in series and before any target device such as a Washer, Dishwasher, HVAC, Industrial Appliance / Equipment etc.
None of the above SPD Types provide any form of protection against a voltage sag / lull (Brown Out)! ☝️ Only an AVR / UPS can provide this type of protection when such electrical events are present.
