I have a 4 year old back-ups be 550 g that has started making a continuous high pitched sound for about 5-10 seconds every 2 hours. Only the green power light indicator is on and no other lights come on. I did not realize it when i got it from amazon, that it was missing the powerchute software. (because it didnt come with a manual either) when I got it I attached the battery according to the enclosed paper, plugged it in, plugged my pc, printer, monitor, router power cords and a lamp into it (i dont have any ethernet cables plugged into it) and basically have not had to worry about it for the past 4 years, until now. which is how i found this website, trying to find a solution. Only having had maybe 5 total blackouts, none of which have ever lasted more than 15 minutes in those 4 years, the battery has never really had any hard usage. The manual I found on this website has trouble shooting for a "continuous" beep, mine isn't continuous it only lasts 10 seconds, and it doesnt do it every 4 seconds it does it every 2 hours and no red light comes on. could it really need a new battery?

Hi Kelly,
The internal battery found in the unit has an estimated life span of between 3-5yrs, depending upon usage. In environments which have considerably poor power, some customers may observe the battery requiring replacement after maybe only 1-2yrs. The is all dependant upon load percentage and battery usage.
From the situation you've described, I believe the battery voltage is periodically dropping due to its age. When the voltage drops below the UPS' point of detection, it will trigger a "battery disconnected" indication.
My recommendation is to replace the internal battery.
