I would like to buy an offline or line-interactive APC UPS for my workstation(power consumption according to wattmeter is 200W) at home. While protection time is not very important(10min would do), this UPS should be manageable over serial or network connection. Most important criteria is an affordable price and (remote)management support. Any suggestions? 🙂

I apologize if my previous statement was incomplete. The SMT750 is the cheapest that you could get that offers serial connectivity as well as network manageability.
The BackUPS 350/750 G are still in production, but they communicate only thru USB.

Hi m4rtin,
You might wanna see the [specs of an SMT750|http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SMT750&tab=models]. This type of UPS is designed to be more compatible with almost all loads. You can remotely access and monitor the UPS over using the software it utilizes or you also have the option to install a [Network Management Card|http://www.apc.com/template/size/apc/sizing_display_options.cfm?option_type=Management&ups_sku=SMT75...] on the smart slot of the UPS. SMT750 also has interface ports such as USB to USB and RJ45 to Serial.

SMT750 looks great, but it's way too expensive for me. I'll paraphrase my question: what is the least expensive APC UPS model, which supports serial and/or network management?

Hi Martin,
Unfortunately the SMT750 is the cheapest APC UPS that you could get.

Does this mean the APC Back-UPS ES series (550 / 700 VA) is out of production?
(I do not completely understand what is meant by "this UPS should be manageable over serial or network connection". If it just means an interactive -by USB- safe shutdown of connected devices on low battery, the APC Back-UPS ES series will do. Apart from pricing, having common AC outlets instead of IEC, is an advantage for consumer use.)

That's a fast reply! Faster than re-reading and editing my reply (about USB, and common AC outlets)
However, to my knowledge, the 550 / 700 VA do communicate through USB, the 350 does not.
(From a happy owner of a APC Back-UPS ES 700VA 230V German/Dutch (BE700-GR). An ideal companion for my Synology NAS + router)
