XPS 1300 fails to charge batteries

I recently replaced the batteries with new ones in my XS 1300. The unit showed a nearly full battery level which dwindled over the course of several days when the unit stopped working. I independently recharged the batteries and placed them back into the UPS only to have the same problem of no remaining level. The batteries test at 10VDC when removed. It appears as if the charging circuit is not functioning. Is there a known component malfunction of the internal circuitry that can be fixed?

The hardware is covered by a three warranty as such (IF) in warranty contact APC Technical Support to submit a RMA.

Have ready the serial number, receipt, and brief description of the problem. If there are active faults / error codes relay the same.

If the hardware is (NOT) in warranty you may at your own risk search for APC Charging Repairs on the Internet / YouTube.

In some instances the problem is a failed and out of tolerance capacitor, resistor. In other cases it’s a transistor, relay, etc.

You could be super lucky and find just a blown fuse which you can replace.

For the average person it makes a lot more sense to replace the unit with a new model with the benefits of support, warranty, and extra features.

If you decide to forego the repair you may consider using the APC Trade-UPS program to obtain a modest discount on the next purchase:

Ah, @Teken, good advice, but (very sadly)...

The TradeUPS Program has ended. Refresh and recycling options remain.

As of August 31, 2025, the APC TradeUPS Program has officially ended. We appreciate the many customers and partners who participated over the years.

At the time of my posted reply 08, 22, 2025 the Trade-UPS program was still available. 🤩

Hopefully the OP took advantage of the program before it stopped. 🤔

It was a great program and incentive for the general public / companies / governments to use to receive a modest discount while also reducing ewaste / recycling handling.

Given the current trend and direction they are heading towards I don’t honestly see APC / Schneider being major player in the UPS market in the next 10-15 years!

They will more than likely share the same fate as Black Berry, Motorola, Nokia, Nortel.

As other more competent and serious companies begin eating their lunch! 🤦‍♂️ The best thing that could ever happen is if they sell off (APC) to another company that isn’t filled with incompetence and people still believing it’s 1990. 🤢
