What is the purpose of the USB connection on BVN900M1 Battery Back-Up?

I recently purchased a APC BVN900M1 Battery Back-Up. I am not finding any information in the user guide concerning the purpose of the USB port on the top of the unit. Is it simply a charging port?
I appreciate your input and help.

From the user guide that I found online, the USB port on top is a USB charging port with a max charging current of 2.1A. Kindly refer to page 2 from the link provided below.
