What is my best option

I am building a new system and will need a new UPS. I cant seem to figure out what I will need minimum. I now have an APC ES 725. It is several years old and the battery is pretty much dead. I will want to run 2 computers so if its is possible to get one that will hook to shut 2 units down that would be great. My old system- Asus A7N8X Deluxe E ,, AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton ,, 1Gig ram ,, BFG Tech BFGE73512GT GeForce 7300GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X,, 4 hard drives ,, and a 400 wt antec smartpower.

My new system will be MSI 770-C45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard ,, Patriot G Series 'Sector 5' Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model PGV34G1333ELK ,, AMD Athlon II X4 630 Propus 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor Model ADX630WFGIBOX ,, XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card ,, 2 huge hard drives for now, maybe more later,, and a CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V .

I will be using a KVM switch and using i monitor an ASUS VW246H Glossy Black 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor.
The more I recearch this the more confused I get. I dont care how long the battery lasts as long as it lasts long enough to shut down my comuter/s . If a unit to handle both PC's is out of reach I will just replace the battery in the one I have and buy a new one for the new PC and the monitor. I want a bare minimum expense. I already tripled my original $400 budget.

If it makes a difference my PC's will be hooked together via eithernet wire.

I'd say the smallest Smart-UPS you could use is the SUA750, but you would really be pushing your luck and have to hope that the system plus any other load never reaches 500W. This would basically require the PC to not be doing anything really intensive consistently, etc. The SUA1000 would definitely work.

The concern here is that you will have two PC's, and it sounds like you want one UPS to shut them both down. In addition, I am familiar with the quality of Corsair parts and assume their power supplies are targeted and designed for users who care about excellent system performance, etc. I checked their website for your PSU model and the PSU is active power factor correction, which can have serious issues cooperating with pretty much any unit in the "Back-UPS" family of UPS'. This is because the Back-UPS produce a stepped approximation to a real sine wave when they are on battery, and active PFC PSU's are designed to "actively" monitor, filter, and regulate incoming sine wave form anomalies in order to provide the purest power to the computer. An active PFC PSU many times is going to see a stepped approximated sine wave as a sine wave distortion, and can shut down in those cases. This is unfortunately entirely dependent on the PSU and configuration of load as sometimes we find that a customer has used a Back-UPS product for a few years with no issues, and other times it is totally incompatible. We have made engineering changes to the Back-UPS line to be more compatible with active PFC devices, but the fact that they will always look for power fluctuations and wave form issues makes it very hard to guarantee compatibility no matter what.

The UPS' we make that are guaranteed to work with active PFC are our Smart-UPS products (SUA type). They output a pure sine wave. They are more expensive so you may need to go with your plan of using two UPS'. A single 750w power supply will pretty much bring any Back-UPS product pretty close to its load limit, same thing for the cheapest Smart-UPS product we offer.

The BX1500G wattage rating would be just fine for the computer you specified, the only thing I would be concerned about is if it is compatible with an Active PFC device. If it does not work because of this fact/concept and this is determined to be the reason, we can't do an RMA for it or waive any return/restocking fees.

OK I bought the BX1500G from best buy because they will let me return it. I have had it a couple days and decided to put it to the test tonight. I unplugged it and I could swear I heard a slight buzzing noise from the PC. But it kept it running the full five minutes then hibernated it. Although The USB connection was lost for a second or 2 twice. The problem came when I plugged it back in. Maybe I should have let it charge a few minute before turning on the computer. I turned on the computer and after about a minute the ups gave a warning beep beep just like when it was unplugged And about 30 seconds later my PC shut off without shutting down. I waited a couple more minutes and no more beeps so I tried again. This time every thing is fine. I think I will return it and put the money towards an SUA. Is there a model between the SUA750 and SUA1000. I think 600 watt would be enough. This one had plenty of reserve after 5 minutes.
I would like to trade up and send in my Back-ups ES 725

I just tried it again and My room mate tells me I need to wait for every thing to reset. I did and it did and every thing looks hunky dory so maybe Im ok after all. I think the buzz I heard was from the UPS its self.

I was looking at this unit APC - 1500VA Battery Back-Up System - Black
Model: BX1500G
I see it went off sale now and went from $169 to $199. I suppose I could just buy a battery for my old one or replace it for the old computer and run the new computer and monitor off the bigger one.
