Waking printer faults new BR1350MS

Just purchased BR1350MS and all of a sudden hitting my very basic home Samsung printer wake button causes the back-ups to fault. Didn't do that a week ago. What might be the cause of this aberrant behavior?

Thanks,

Frank

Appreciate the diagnosis. APC tells me if I don't want to see the problem again, that I should upgrade to a Smart UPS. I've always used APC Back-UPS and had no problems for the past10 plus years without sine technology.

After re-plugging all my devices into the newly purchased BR1350MS, including the printer, moving it from the Battery/Surge to Surge only has solved the problem. Not a single drop and I expect that the incorporation of sine technology on the battery/surge in use with laser printers is the issue.

I found Problem #5 from the forum article that would explain my situation: https://www.se.com/ww/en/faqs/FA158811/:

Problem #5: Connected equipment does not accept a stepped-approximated sine wave.
Investigation: This would be the case if only one of the pieces of equipment plugged into the battery backup outlets dropped while the other equipment in the battery backup outlets stay on when the unit transferred o battery power.
Solution: Back-UPS products output a step approximation of a sine wave when the unit is On Battery. While this kind of waveform is ideal for computers and computer-related equipment, it may not be compatible for other types of loads like motor loads. If you are using non-computer loads with one of the above mentioned UPS's, consult the manufacturer's specifications to determine if the equipment can run off of a ""stepped wave"". If it can't, then it will require a UPS which outputs a pure sine wave when On Battery. APC UPS single phase models which do output a Pure Sine Wave include: Smart-UPS >700VA, Matrix-UPS, and the Symmetra LX.:

Since I have no desire to spend more $$ for a Smart-UPS, I'll just live with my very basic Samsung monochrome multifunction printer receiving only surge protection.

All the best.

Hi,

Is the printer a laser printer? If so the cause may be an overloaded circuit. Laser printer have to heat up when first started and than draw will cause UPS to alarm. Even if the printer is not plugged into the UPS but is on the same circuit it can cause an issue for the UPS.

I like Bill's answer above.   I don't think the beep is a fault...it probably is the signal that your UPS noticed a voltage sag below a preset limit.  The voltage coming to your home always differs depending on the total neighborhood load and the voltage present at your UPS receptacle can differ based on other loads on that circuit and elsewhere in your home.  Summertime Air Conditioners bring higher loads to the entire neighborhood grid and introduce new opportunities to "sag" below this threshold when in-house devices suddenly use alot of power.
