UTS10BI gives CKT fault condition - CKT8 No output.

This was originally posted on APC forums on 9/9/2014

UTS10BI gives CKT fault condition - CKT8 No output.   Does this just mean the fuse is blown?  I recently moved the unit from one house to another so I'm wondering too if I should just reset to factory default as well to clear any previous settings that may not align but as soon as  I applied power and gave it time to do its initial diagnostic it came up with the error posted above and said reset or call tech support.

Any ideas??   The manual doesn't give this specific "not output" that I saw when reading through the troubleshooting.

I don't think it is a setting, especially since you reset it to defaults. I checked on my end with to see if there was anything you missed and at this point, we don't see what else it could be beyond the breakers, wires, fuse, etc. We're thinking an RMA may be in order unfortunately undecided

Hello,

I found that when you see No Output, it means "A circuit no output fault happens when the unit detects there is no output voltage present when the source voltage it is powered from is good."

Yes, we should check the fuse but it can also be the breaker on the panel for this circuit. If neither of those check out, the only other thing we can think of is that a faston fell off somewhere. If you check the fuse and breaker, then I don't know if you can provide a picture of the inside so we could see if we can tell (if you don't see anything obvious).

Great thanks!   So the no output could occur if the wires came apart from the breaker or inside the UTS10 and thus the no output voltage...  I currently have all breakers in the off position in the main breaker panel b/c this is a new construction and I don't have all the wires completely landed so I didn't want the power to go out but it sounds like this is just testing from the UTS10 output so maybe a faston inside the UTS10 came loose.   I'll take a look and post a picture if I can't find anything.  Thank you very much for the help.   I need to figure this out before the HVAC guy shows up next week as the 9/10 runs the minisplit!   I'm pretty excited I finally found a useful output for a 240/20 amp breaker smile  I can heat and cool even when the power is down.

so....   I checked the connections and they all seemed tight.  reset the unit and got the same error.   I replaced the fuse and got the same error.   I then reset to factory default and after it reset I got a CKT fault for 7 and no output now.   The number 8 light actually went off and now all the other circuit lights are blinking (previously 8 was blinking with all the other circuits).  I'm guessing that means 8 isn't working at all.  Circuit 9/10 are solid red lights which I believe just means it is getting power.  So I'm guessing all the circuits will give me the same error which means there is no output from the unit on any circuit???  bummer.  Should I try to call the technical support number and see if there is a step by step?   Should I go buy new fuses for all the circuits?

I do have one question which I kind of feel like I mentioned but didn't emphasis...  does having the breaker off at the panel cause this error?   It says output but does it really mean input.   Will this error occur if the breaker is off and cause the circuits to say no output and blink?   Is this what happens when there is a power failure?

Jeff

Let me double check with SecretSquirrel tomorrow. He will know more than I think you'll get out of tech support to be completely honest and both he and I are out of the office today.

We are a little confused, how is the UTS panel powered if the breaker at your panel is off?

sorry I haven't been very clear.   I've applied power to circuits 9/10 b/c they are dedicated to the AC unit.   All the other circuits are currently not terminated so I have the breakers off.  Last time all the breakers were on when I ran the unit so I guess I don't know if the output issue is because of the breaker being off for the circuit and the "no output" is the correct error code when a breaker is turned off.

Yes, we believe it is normal what you're seeing until it is brought online based on what we can tell. I don't think we'll be able to verify operation 100% until the breakers are on.

yes, it appears you are correct.   As I've been terminating all my connections on each circuit and flipping the breaker and resetting the unit, the flashing circuits and no output faults go away!   However I still have an issue with my #8 circuit.   There is no light on what so ever but all the other lights are solid red indicating no problems.   The one thing I'm wondering is that I have this going to surge protecting breaker.   I haven't tried to swap it out to see if that causes the light to turn on but there is no error message, it just doesn't have a light and there is no power going to the circuit...

Any ideas?

Is it a GFCI or AFCI? The UTS won't work with them because they need isolated neutrals but the UTS shares the neutral throughout the unit.

It is a circuit surge protector breaker...  however tonight I tried swapping it with a regular breaker and it did the same thing after I reset to default factory settings.   The unit goes through a system check for each circuit and when it gets to 8 the light goes off.   I finally just bypassed the UTS system and did a direct connection and the circuit powers fine.   For whatever reason the circuit 8 isn't getting power.   I've changed the fuse, checked the wire connections, used different breakers....  Is there a setting that would be an issue?   I don't see how that would be possible being that I keep factory defaulting when I make a change.

I was afraid of that.   I'll probably just not have the number 8 circuit as the pain to uninstall and RMA is probably not worth the effort.   Thanks again for all the help and I appreciate the assistance very much!
