UTS10BI: 4kw Inverter w/battery bank connect to backup 1

Anyone out there attempt this? If so, how did it work? Can you provide details on the setup?

Thanks for the reply. My setup, in theory, is a little different. I'm going to be using either a MagnumPAE 220v or the new ConectSW 220v which is coming out soon. Both hot lead from the output side of the inverter will be hardwired to backup 1 on the uts10bi. There will be an additional ATS between the inverter and the input sources for the utility and generator. I have circuits 9 & 10 feeding a sub-panel to squeeze in a few more light load circuits. When power is lost, the inverter will be powered by a battery bank until the batteries are 30% drained and then the inverter will start the generator to power the load and charge the bank. I will post results ASAP.

It can be done. It requires 2 inverters. Xantrex used to have inverters that would run 180 degrees out of phase from each other for 220v applications. I'd imagine you could still get them. You probably already own the inverter and are not looking to purchase.

With a single inverter one way is to combine the backup 1, 2 hot leads into one 120v inlet, but then you loose the use of circuits 9 & 10. I've done this by using a specialized adapter plug (L5-30 to L14-30) so I can run my Honda EU2000 to conserve fuel with the UTS10BI backup 1 or still use a 240v generator if I need to use circuits 9 & 10. Works great for my application.

Your easiest option, in my humble opinion, would be to use your inverter on backup 2 for circuits 2-8, but then you're limited far below your 4kw. Sounds like you've already thot thru this & that's why you're looking at backup 1 for the inverter. If it's a 120v inverter, the only thing you're going to gain by moving it to backup 1 instead of backup 2, is circuit 1, plus more power to distribute to the circuits. You will not gain circuits 9 & 10.
