USB Over Current

I have a XS1500, which I have had for about 1 year, connected to my Mac Pro. I recently began getting a "USB Over Current" warning. I have isolated this to the USB cable form my UPS. I have shut the UPS off and unplugged and reconnected the USB cable. I have reset the SMC.. Unfortunately, I keep getting this warning and the computer shuts down the USB buss attached to this port. Can someone tell me why I am getting this warning. IS there a short in the cable or is it related to the UPS itself.

Thanks for your help. I found a replacement cable and have not gotten a USB over current warning so far (about 4 hours). Time will tell if this solves the over current issue, which was pretty consistent every time I plugged the cable in, and the wake from sleep problem. Will let you know if it does not work. Thanks again!

Hi James,

While I don't know whether a short in the cable would cause that overcurrent message from a Mac, as I've never come across this situation, if the UPS is still in warranty and you would like to eliminate the cable from being a problem, simply contact support and explain that you've come across an issue that you've isolated to the UPS or the USB, probably the USB, and replace the USB cable.

As far as the problem when you wake the machine, we've seen that even on Windows platforms when the PC goes into a state other than hibernate initiated from the UPS, or Shutdown. Anything that's going to stop the flow of power between the UPS and USB port will cause a communication loss, and sometimes, takes a reboot to re-initiate communication.
