UPS prevenitive maintenance

Is there a way to tell BEFORE a UPS fails? We've had several, that were old, fail for "no reason". I'm sure it's just because the battery was old, but is there a way to check them to see how the battery is doing? Not just if the battery is full or empty, but how it's health is?

I am not sure about the health of UPS but ofcourse there is a repair for UPS..
