Hello. My first post here.
I have a RS1100 bought and being used in india. Today their was a power cut, electricity came back and my UPS just wouldn't switch from battery mode, thinking maybe it would be a matter of time. I ran my computer anyways, ran outta batteries. Tried the UPS in other outlets, no luck.
Roommate's computer with UPS (not APC) was running fine though.
Is it a matter of sensitivity ? Should I replace my UPS ?
Will check tomorrow in case it works fine again, I suspect a low voltage.
Running my computer directly. Very bad electric supply here, please help.
Thanks in advance.

Basudev,
Unfortunately if you do not have a data port on your UPS the APC software wouldn't work. But just like what Techie said you can adjust it manually I've attached a copy of your UPS user manual in case you do not have it.

Hello Basudev, welcome to APC Forums.
I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. I will try my best to assist you with your problem but I would like to inform you as well that if all else fails you might need to contact our APC India Phone Support for further troubleshooting since the region that I am supporting is NAM-US and Canada.
Typically if the BackUPS does not return from On Battery to Online it might still be detecting power disturbances in your area such as sag or undervoltage. Would you happen to install the APC PowerChute Personal Edition software? If not I would suggest that you install it so that we could find out more on what is happening with your UPS. Since your UPS stayed On Battery I would like you to check or confirm if there are any lights that were ON during those times. From the software as well you should be able to adjust the sensitivity and transfer voltages of your UPS, this is how our typical US modeled UPS works.
Please do let me know what you'll find out on your UPS.

Thank you jon.
Well the funny thing is it's started to work normally now. I am not sure what the case is. I suspect it was low voltage now.
I let the UPS sit for a while, mean while googling about it. Thought i try changing sensitivity, so i plug it in and it worked. Tried it with a load by connecting to a Heater, worked fine for a while. So I am now back to using it normally. Though I am still kinda paranoid about it.
Will see how it goes for a while...
Found a thread about someone with a similar problem (different APC UPS) in pakistan. UPS was shipped in from overseas. People suggested it was low voltage.
Electricity is quite inconsistent here (in our country) so its hard to conclude without any concrete measurements from the outlet.
Thank you again.

That is good to hear Basudev, I would suggest installing the APC software for UPS monitoring.

Does the UPS goes back to Online? Were you able to install the PCPE software? If you do please click on the Performance link found under Monitor System and post a screenshot of it. This would help us know what kind of power problem the unit is seeing from the power source.

The UPS doesnt come back online.
I installed the PCPE software. Everything is positive in the tests and it didn't really detect the UPS going into battery mode.
But i think i need to connect the UPS to my computer through USB, the UPS doesn't have any USB ports on it.

You need to connect the RJ45 to USB cable between the UPS data port which is RJ45 jack and the Computer USB port. The UPS does not have USB port. It has got a data port at the rear to connect the RJ45 connector. The model number you mentioned does not seem to be a correct model number. What is the exact model number of the UPS? You can find it on a white bar code sticker at the rear of the unit.
What is the input voltage is the UPS receiving from the wall outlet? Did you check the UPS circuit breaker? If it is tripped, it will not pass the input power to the circuitry. The UPS should work online if the input power is normal. Please check if the unit receives good power from the wall.

@techie: http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR1100CI-IN&total_watts=200
I doubt the condition of the power. Running two computers and an Air Conditioner in the same room. Tried other wall outlets.
The UPS didn't come with a RJ45-USB cable. Will try to get one.
@jon: The UPS turns on normally as it always does. Then after a while it goes into battery mode and doesn't switch back.
Pulling the plug, UPS goes into battery mode, reinsert plug, UPS normal mode, then after a while battery mode and wont recover.
Its really low on battery so computer goes off. Leaving it to charge for a while. It charges even when off, and mains on i am presuming.
It behaves differently than another UPS in the same room. Like going into battery backup and all.

Basudev,
On your previous post you've said that the UPS didn't come with an RJ45 to USB cable, at the back of your UPS do you see a port where it says Data Port? This is the port where you would need to plug the RJ45-USB cable while the other end goes to the USB port of your computer. What cable did you used to connect the UPS to your computer?
I've also attached a screenshot of the PCPE software on this post wherein you will see an option for you to change the voltage threshold settings of a UPS. This would help you set the high and low transfer point of your UPS.

This model does not have the USB connectivity. Therefore, the PCPE software can not be used to monitor this model. I understand that you are in touch with the APC India Customer Care Center. Are they sending an engineer to diagnose the issue? Did they replace the UPS? Are you facing this issue with the replacement unit?
You may try adjusting the UPS sensitivity to Low and see if it helps. You can find the Transfer Voltage and Sensitivity Adjustment instructions in the BR1100CI-IN User manual.

Basudev,
I'm sorry to hear that you weren't able to get it working, at the same time I'm happy that you got another UPS. Did our APC India support sent it to you or you 've exchanged your UPS from where you bought it?

Thank you jon,
APC india replaced it. It's running perfectly no qualms. The service guy couldn't say much though about the defective UPS.
