I just received a Back-UPS ES 750 (Model # BE750G, S/N 3B0848X35129) yesterday and hooked it up to my MacBook, which is running OS X 10.5.8. I did at first install/uninstall the PowerChute software that came with the UPS. I then tried to configure using the operating system's Energy Saver. When I select UPS from Energy Saver, the energy settings "Sleep" and "Options" are active to accommodate changes. When I select the energy setting "UPS", I then see below the UPS battery level (100%) and the UPS model "Back-UPS ES 750 FW:841.I3 .D USB FW:I3". Below that, the shutdown choices: "Shutdown the computer when it has been on UPS power for:" AND "Shutdown the computer when the time left on UPS power is:" AND "Shutdown the computer when the UPS power level drops to:" are all greyed out, which prevents any changes. And yes, the "Click the lock to prevent further changes" is UNLOCKED. I have been searching through various threads on this issue and have not found a response for resolution. Right now, what I have is a UPS which will only delay the inevitable of loss of power with no graceful shutdown. BTW, I introduced a PowerBook, also running OS X 10.5.8, and get the same condition with that as well.

Hi John,
Unfortunately PCPE is not supported on 10.5.8 so having installed it there can be no guarantee what might have happened, though I doubt it caused this. Do you have the data cable direct to the computer or through a USB HUB? Are there any adapters or cable extenders being used? You can not click the check boxes either, correct? You might want to try to lock the options then unlock them again and see if it clears up.

Thank you for your reply. I had also connected UPS to my PowerBook, also running OS X 10.5.8, without installing the Powerchute SW. It too has the shutdown options grayed out where I can not check the boxes. I had toggled the lock/unlock feature as well. And yes, I have had the UPS cable connected directly to computer without any adapters, etc. I have since tried using Equinux's APC TRACKER and that product works great. The only problem is price ($129.00). Another solution that I have tried and is free is APCUPSD. I currently have it installed/configured and tested. I am working on CGI programs to allow for GUI status displays. I suppose with no support for OS X 10.5.8, this thread is pretty much dead. Again, thank you for your reply, I certainly appreciate it.
