UPS ES 350 shutdown

I guess I made the mistake of getting this battery as the salesman said it was the most popular for what I needed. However, now I find out it doesn't have automatic shutdown software.

So what happens if I'm gone and the electricity goes out? Does it just do a hard shutdown or what? And if it does, then every day when I go to work I'll have to shut the computer down, I guess?

Yes Jon, thanks very much. The model number is BE 350G.

Thanks. I did checked the BE350G and unfortunately this particular unit does not offer/ have data port that would make the UPS communicate with a PC. The data port is important since this is where you are going to connect the RJ45-USB cable going to the UPS. Have you asked the salesperson if you can have the unit exchanged with a different model?

Jon, unfortunately I've already got it connected so I doubt that they would take it back. I'll try and call them. I purchased it from Batteries Plus. My last battery was a cyberpower and it had the USB capability, so dummy me never thought to ask them about this. I just assumed the APC would have it also. Ummmmm, I was wrong. I'm still learning in my old age...heh heh.

So my thinking was that I could somehow create some kind of script (I know NOTHING about script) and find someone who could maybe figure out that when it's on battery power for, say, 5 minutes, the PC would automatically shut down.

I DID learn something last night though. I was playing around trying to configure the battery and in the power options and made a major boo-boo by giving myself 2 minutes to shutdown, thinking that it had something to do with the battery power......Nooooooo.... What it did was cause a constant loop from the time the PC came on to the time it shutdown, was not enough time to go back into the control panel to change it back. That was REALLY fun.....sigh. But I finally fixed it. Won't play with THOSE controls again, lol.

I hope everything is in order with your PC settings. Unfortunately, our UPS communicates with the PC using the data port and the cable without these it would not be able to send signal and provide it's current state. I haven't tested creating a script using the Native options without the cable. Let us wait and see if some other posters have done this in the past.
