UPS BE750G doesn't LIKE my new monitor, HP 2010i flat-screen LED (20")

My APC UPS, BE750G makes nasty whines when I try to start my machine with the new HP 2010i LCD flat-screen 20" (diagonal) monitor plugged into it. And not even if I plug the monitor into the wall! It blinks about 12 times (normal start-up), but then starts whining, and won't do anything. I can't get my computer started (a Touch System, dated 2004).

The only way I can get my machine to start is to use a surge protector instead. I REALLY don't like being without a UPS; our power is pretty rough around here in the boonies.

Do I need a new UPS? If so, what model? The 750 is ample power for my equipment, I believe.

Hard drives:

internal: two Western Digital 80 GB drives (formatted as 4 partitions, 2 primary)
C and E on drive 0
D and F on drive 1

These are IDE drives.

external: one WD 120 GB drive (111 formatted)

CD-Rom - LG CD/DVD-rom

modem (USR Courier V. Everything external modem)

keyboard - Fujitsu standard keyboard

mouse - HyperLaser optical mouse

and now the monitor, the apparent source of the problem.

I'll appreciate any help anybody can offer!

Your suggestion about overload makes sense to me. However, the load on the UPS should be LESS since I put in a new monitor, as the new one requires less power than the old CRT.

It ended up that I bought a new UPS - same model as before - BE750G (Canadian version). Thereafter, NO PROBLEMS!

What a huge relief!

Thanks to everyone for your help!

If the monitor is plugged into the computer at all, the UPS whines.

I may need to run a series of tests again; guess I need some sleep first!

Forgot to say what my CPU is.

Touch system; Mini ATX Tower, P4, 2.0 GHZ, 738 MB memory, Radeon (7000?), has floppy drive,

Windows XP Home ISP3, fully updated)

By the way, I'm not running PowerChute; maybe I should download the new one and try it. 2.0 wouldn't work on my system.

I'm not sure I tested that - so short of sleep - but - a local computer guy suggested today maybe I need a new battery! Tell you what - I'll BET that's it!

So I'll get the battery tested, and likely, it only needs to be replaced!

Oh, duh! I'll report back in a few days on that.

My battery tested good, but it's getting old, so I got a new one anyway, and will store the old one for a while.

Naturally, I still had the problem with the new battery in the UPS, so I plugged everything back into the surge protector and I'm running on that for the moment. I just can't imagine what sort of incompatibility - that's what it seems to be - the monitor has with the UPS!

If anybody has any ideas, by all means, be my guest!

(review: when the new monitor [HP2010i) is connected to the computer, and I start up the UPS, it does its normal start-up, but then stops, and emits a constant tone - and it's turned off; I can't start the computer.)
