UPB70 powers off at ~30 seconds...

Mu UPB70 will stay on for maybe 30 seconds and shut off, and will not pass voltage if hooked to charger. All 4 LEDS are on.

Must be a four year thing! My UPB70 is also four years out of the box and has the same symptom. Like many folks on this thread, I really like the unit and would love a fix...

Hi, do you have a serial number on your unit? Also what kind of laptop/device are you hooking it up to and what did you select for an output voltage setting? Have you always used the correct tip for the device you have powered using the UPB?

Serial is: 6a0639b 09884

Using it with various laptops with correct tips and voltage settings. It used to work fine but I had stopped using it for a bit.

It is possible the internal battery is bad, since the unit is about 4 years old. It's hard to say for sure though and there isn't a lot more troubleshooting to be done considering how little control there is over these units. Unless the UPB is getting hot or there is a short or feedback of some kind coming from the charger FOR the UPB or to/from the laptop...there isn't much more that would just cause it to shut down in 30 seconds. Sleep mode takes 15 minutes to engage. I would call into tech support and check on the warranty status of this unit to see if it is replaceable. Since it is 4 years old I highly doubt it, unless you have a proof of purchase that shows it was bought within the last year.

It is 4 years old. I did some tests, and off the laptop charger, with a multimeter will show output for 30 seconds then drop to 0. The battery gauge shows it as being full. It is not getting hot or making strange noises so I am stumped.

Yea...sounds like you should check your warranty (if you bought it within a year it will be covered if you have a proof of purchase) or purchase a replacement.

Maybe I will take it apart and try putting new cells in it. Are they LiPo or Li-ion?

Heres a video of the actual problem:

Not that I have any personal reservations of my own to helping you with this, but APC cannot divulge information about internal parts and we cannot assist customers with any procedures along the lines of what you want to do, unfortunately. I will say, however, that googling the product will give you the battery type and some other specifics you may be curious about.

Were you successful in finding a battery? I have the same issue and have really enjoyed this unit up until this happened.

Hi Mike,
Did you ever resolve your problem? I am experiencing the same issue! Like you I bought my UPB70 about 4 years ago. I used it only occasionally but stopped for a while unitl recently only to find out now it doesn't work anymore. My unit would turn off after about 6 seconds. I watched your video. Though you mentioned 30 sec in your posting, your video shows only 6 seconds just like mine.
Thank you
Alex

Hallo,
I have also this problem. Please do not destroy your unit there is a hope to restore it.
Thanks the startup check the UPB70 control the quality of batteries.
If one or more are demaged the test fails and the UPB70 switch off automatically.
I've opened my unit and find one battery (six inside) demaged (smell of acid and it was inflated.
I'm trying to buy new battery from China producer. If I will success I will replay to confirm the possibility to repair the unit.
