We are using quite a few Smart UPS Surta 2200 AC to AC regenerating devices in high end home installations. Our techs over the years have tested for noise with a device called the "noise sniffer". It is found at this web address
http://www.audioprism.com/noisesniffer.html
When we connect the output of any Surta 2200 to the Noise Sniffer it produces a very loud buzz. If we connect the same sniffer to another AC to AC regenerator with the same power rating it makes no noise what so ever! We have also checked several other surge protectors including APCs G5 and the noise is much lower than the output of the Surta 2200. I am suspicious that the other super quiet AC To AC regenerators are using "better" inverters. Not sure however. Anyone with any insight into this issue? We are compelled to consider switching brands.
Thanks!

Thanks for the response, but I believe the model I am using is a double conversion model. It is providing power to the connected equipment with it's inverter at all times, unless an overload occurs at which time it sends utility power through Here is a link

Dingle,
The Smart-UPS is a line-interative UPS that when in normal operating mode, is passing power to the load direct from the utility, it only transfers to "inverter" mode when on battery. The noise you are seeing is likely from the raw utility itself. APC offers a version of AV line filters, surge protectors and UPS specifically for Audiophile applications. http://www.apc.com/products/apcav/products/index.cfm?action=detail&base_sku=H15BLK. Your best bet is to get this purpose built equipment or get seperate UPS and noise filters.
I hope this helps.
