Stone dead BX1300LCD and 900?

I've got a pair of APC UPS devices, one being a BX1300LCD and the other an XS 900.  Both are stone dead, no signs of life at all when plugged into known-good wall outlets.

What's the typical debugging process?  I've got a number of other APC UPSes and could swap in another battery temporarily.  But I'd want to avoid damaging the other batteries in the process, of course.

I'm assuming they're out of warranty at this point, so ripping them apart and performing repairs is certainly worth considering.  Any tips/suggestions/warnings?  Beyond the usual cautions regarding AC power of course.  I've replaced my share of capacitors and various bits of high voltage gear in my time (and have thus lived to tell the tale).

I believe these models should be powering up with AC power with no battery connected (and just saying battery disconnected via a beep and flashing replace battery LED) but if they sat for years, they may need a little "jump start" of DC voltage, like if all of the caps were completely dried up. I don't think it should technically be required but if you had a spare working battery, I'd try it. I haven't seen a UPS destroy a battery for something like this - only when a good battery is added to a system with dying batteries and over the course of hours or days, the good battery would be damaged and drained.

Beyond that, I don't know since we don't provide schematics but I do think trying a good battery is worth a shot if you have one.
