What does the “estimated battery time” number represent? What is an acceptable range for this number?

right, if the UPS runs on battery for a while and discharges completely and charges back up once or twice, the runtime estimate while online should be pretty accurate (within 1-2 minutes).

It represents the time your equipment will be able to be on when a power cut occurs, just that.
If the time being shown by the software is not what you're getting when there is a power failure, it usually means the battery(ies) is(are) worn out.

also to add on to what rau said, while the UPS is "online," this number is an estimate. when the UPS transfers to "on battery" this number is calculated a little bit more accurately. after a couple of transfers to battery, the estimate while the UPS is "online" should be right on par with your actual runtime if it was a little bit off in the beginning.
the number for this value is calculated on battery capacity and the size of your load on the UPS so it all depends. if you find your UPS on the apc.com website, it should have a runtime chart with it so you can see at a particular load percentage what the runtime should be.

Thanks for all the input. So, if I understand correctly, if I pull the plug a few times, I will increase the accuracy of time estimate.
If I recall correctly, I saw a 37 mimute estimate which turned into 6 minutes after the first time I pulled the plug and let the system shut down under PowerShute.
