Red flashing lights UPS 500 HS

I just bought a APC Back-UPS 500 HS last month and haven't used it yet, and today went to hook it up and when I start it up, it does the startup routine... green flashing lights then the amber battery light... then all the sudden this noise like you'd hear from a high voltage stepdown transformer going grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr loud and then silence and two flashing red led's for Overload and Replace battery... what is up with this? I disconnected the battery once and reconnected it and turned it on again and it started up... so powered it down and turned it on again and the same grrrrrr noise and the two flashing red lights.......

Wierdly when I did what you said with the power button for a few seconds the thing came on went to amber battery light for a few seconds did not make the grrrrrrr noise then came online with no red lights... this kind of bugs me, is this something I should still be worried about? it seems to work now though... if i pull out the plug from the wall it goes to battery power mode just fine and runs fine!.. this unit is littearly brand new, I just bought it this past month and this is the first time using it, so I'd assume its in the 2yr warrenty!

yes, i would assume so. if you have a proof of purchase it would be covered. i was just saying, incase you bought it from a retailer and the serial number indicated it was an older unit.

what you did is braindead the UPS which discharges all of the capacitors inside the unit. if the fault comes back, it will need to be replaced. i would keep an eye on it for now but it should be fine.
