Hey,
for a microcontroller project I'm interested in the SmartSlot pinout and some information regarding the communication with the UPS unit.
I already figured this out:
Pin Function
1 +12V
2 GND
3 +24V
4 GND
5 V_Bat (current limited by a resistor)
6 (is NOT +5V)
7 Monitoring pin for data sent through COM or USB ports
8 RX
9 TX / AC present
10
11 Enable RX (pull to GND, then send data)
12
13 Power on / test when pulled to GND
14 Power off when pulled to GND
Edit: I found out the things I need, I think... The other two pins are at +5V. Does anyone have some information on those?

Thanks, I already knew most of the serial port stuff from the NUT site. It is of not much use to me since for my computer I use the USB port. The main reason why I wanted to use the SmartSlot for the uC is that I suspected it can be used simultaneously. USB and serial cannot. Well, if there is a network card for that slot and it does not render the other ports of the UPS useless, there had to be a way...

APC SmartSlot cards can be used simultaneously with the serial port, although I don't think the USB port works with a SmartSlot card in our last generation of UPSes.
Our newest products like [APC SmartUPS X 750VA Rack/Tower LCD|http://www.apcc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=SMX750] are capable of SmartSlot, serial and USB simultaneously, however they don't speak UPSLink.

APC cannot provide this information but it may be available through another source, or if another customer is willing to provide it, that is fine.

In addition to what Eramus said, you may refer the APC APC Computer Interface Port document in the below link. I hope that this may be useful for you. This document provides technical information regarding APC UPS computer interface ports. However, it does not provide the Smart Slot pinout details.

Last night I figured out the data pins using a MAX232 and saw that they simply use the same protocol as the serial port:
http://www.networkupstools.org/protocols/apcsmart.html
There is an RX enable pin which has to go to GND before I'm able to send data. I'm still not sure what the serial or USB port does when I try this. After all, there seems to be only one TX line...
And I would be glad to know how much current I may draw from the +12V line. I'd like to hook up a small display and a fan...
