Smart-UPS X 3000 does not charge from ecoflow

I want to increase the battery life of my equipment. I already have an extra battery for 3000, plus I bought an Ecoflow Delta2 max. The UPS is constantly clattering and doesn't want to charge. Do you have any ideas? In Ukraine, it is actual.

Appreciate you providing all of the logs and screen captures. It’s quite apparent the power being generated by the eco flow is less than ideal as such the UPS is reacting poorly.

I am very reluctant to suggest the following given the unit is no longer in warranty, this upgrade process may result in a completely bricked system. ☹️

Since you’re at war this would leave you with no UPS hardware.

Regardless, please read the latest firmware release notes for v15 which I have appended here:

https://download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_Doc_Ref=Smart-UPS_FW_Release_Notes&p_File_Name=SMX10...

Your system is currently at 7.4 and 8.1 offers a few important fixes and enhancements in how the system operates when input voltage is poor.

More specifically items fixed / resolved in action items: 1, 7, 8, 9, 10.

The latest UPS firmware will bring that hardware to v15.0 which includes v8.1 fixes as listed up above.

Below is the link to download the latest FUW (Firmware Update Wizard) which will automatically detect the (correct firmware) and install the same onto the target UPS:

https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA279197/

I have also appended an APC forum thread which I call out what must be done and in place:

https://community.se.com/t5/APC-UPS-Data-Center-Enterprise/APC-UPS-SMX1500-firmware-update-failure-a...

NOTE: I can not stress enough updating any APC UPS firmware is extremely dangerous and can lead to a bricked / broken system! Please consider this before doing so as there is no guarantee this will resolve the issues you see now.

But, the action items listed up above have solved many problems related to power input quality for many. The firmware must be loaded using only the supplied proprietary APC RJ50 -> RS232 Serial cable or one you bought and validated to work or one you made.

Do (NOT) attempt to upload the firmware through the NMC / USB! NMC must be removed during this process.

Upload the data & event logs from the system for review if there is a NMC. If no NMC (Network Management Card).

You can record the information from the LCD / Logs. You can also retrieve some logs from the APC Power Chute Software if the UPS is connected to a computer running the above (PCBE / PCSS) software.

You may consider adjusting the following settings to see how the system behaves and reacts:

Local Power / Power Quality: Change this from good to either two options of (Fair / Poor). This defines when the system will go into battery only mode.

Transfer Voltage: Adjust the upper & lower input transfer voltage. This setting defines when the AVR circuit will engage.

Sensitivity: Adjust from normal to either (reduced / low). This defines when the system will go into battery only mode.

Let me know how the new settings affect the system from operating and if it allows charging from the eco flow. 👍

In the process of testing above, at the moment of sudden shutdown of the UPS we had a server and 1 switch down. Therefore, we will pause and not test for the time being....

Update

Found out why it shut down, the error--

Tested, changed Sensitivity parameter in the process, it doesn't work. Transfer Voltage is in a wide range and Power Quality is not found in our APC.....

Can you provide a link to the specific model Eco Flow Max you have on hand that provides the technical specifications?!?

Please also upload the data, event, and UPS Fault logs from the NMC here. Along with a screen capture of the UPS power options and their setting.

Lastly, please call out what UPS / NMC firmware is installed and the serial number of the UPS.

As an aside if you have not considered the following items this may be a possible solution / option.

Inverter: Purchase a 12 volt pure sine wave inverter that can be connected to the Eco Flow. Than attach the UPS to the inverter which should offer a cleaner output in terms of voltage / frequency such as this example:

https://a.co/d/gGyQ9BQ

Keep in mind the link is offering an example of the hardware and not a recommendation of buying this specific brand etc. You’ll obviously purchase the correct hardware for your regions voltage and frequency and power handling.

AVR: You may purchase an AVR with the appropriate power handling which essentially is a transformer with various output voltage taps. The key feature of any high quality AVR is it maintains and regulates the output voltage and frequency like your APC UPS.

Transformer: You may consider buying a 1:1 isolation transformer. This device isolates the input from output and provides a regulated voltage / current / frequency.

UPS: You may consider buying another used (simple) pure sine wave UPS. The older APC SAU, SURT models were more tolerant to dirty power. The unit doesn’t need to have any batteries as you’re just using it as a big filter so the SMX3000 can recharge its cells / stay online instead of going into battery only mode.

All of the above are possible options for you given your current situation. I did not suggest any of these as this obviously requires spending finances and having the ability to purchase the same.

Just throwing out some ideas . . .
