Hi I have an older APC Smart UPS SU1000NET I have had for years... When plugged directly into an outlet I get appsolutly nothing... No lights no alarm nothing... I hate to get rid of it if it only needs a new battery... I can replace the battery for about 50.00. and dont mind spening that SO LONG as thats my problem... Is it a dead battery or is the unit its self shot?
Any one have any ideas???
Thanks in advance.
Bryan

If your unit worked before you put it away for storage, it most likely works now as well. When the batteries are dead as a door nail, the unit will not turn on.
Those are very good units, get yourself a set of batteries and you'll be good as new.

Hi Bryan,
its very difficult to determine if the unit needs a new battery when it is not powering on at all. Based on my experience with this unit, it sometimes will not power on if the battery is bad. If you can return the battery for refund in case if the new battery does not fix the issue, then try the unit with the new RBC(Replacement Battery Cartridge). otherwise, i recommend you to [trade in|http://www.apc.com/support/tradeups_program.cfm] this unit to a new unit.

Hi guys and thanks for the information... A new after market battery is like 40-50 bucks. It was working fine then one day the alarm stayed on none stop then I unplugged it due to the annoying sound... After that it never came on againb... Maybe Ill pick up a set of batteries for it and see what happens... I hate to get rid of it....
Thanks agin for your input..

As long as the alarm was the "replace battery" alarm, the unit will work perfectly when you put in a new battery. At the time when the alarm went off, your unit already had a dead battery. As it was sitting for a few months, the battery got discharged even more and now the unit doesn't think it has a battery. The [SU1000NET|http://excessups.com/smartups-1000-su1000net-beige-p-39.html] will not turn on without a battery. Actually none of the APC units will turn on without a battery.
Pick up a set of batteries and give it a try!

Hi Im,
After connecting the set of batteries, if still you are getting continous beep. You can try brain dead steps on your UPS and check.
To brain dead a Smart-UPS, the load must be turned off and unplugged. Next, the UPS must be turned off and unplugged. Once unplugged, push and hold the off button for 6 to 8 seconds. The sensitivity light in the back of the UPS should go out and there should be a small audible click in the unit. At this point UPS you can be again plugged in and started up. The UPS will work fine on your location.
