I have setup a Windows 2008 Server, and installed powerchute 3.0 personal, and connected via USB. if the user is logged into the console, the shutdown happens as expected. However, if I am connected via RDP to the local console(/admin option), the timer inside the APC application counts down minutes until shutdown, but once it gets below one minute just stays at <1 minute, and no shutdown occurs. I have not yet tested what happens when no user is logged in. Is this normal?
It appears that if no user is logged in, it works as expected, however if a user is logged in via remote desktop not using the /admin option, it still does NOT initiate the shutdown.

i havent personally worked with it that much but my initial findings show that windows 2008 has removed all native UPS support (USB and serial). I thought it was like vista though and would support USB only so somebody please correct me if I am wrong here.

the issue with this is that again, we cannot officially support the UPS you have with PCPE on this OS since that is not what it was intended for. powerchute business edition with our Smart UPS is not supported if you are using Hyper-V on this server, or some type of VMWare service. you'd have to look towards a Smart UPS with Network Management Card/Powerchute Network Shutdown software which does support all of that.
hope that helps even though im sure thats what you don't want to hear 😕

unfortunately, powerchute personal edition is not technically supported for Windows 2008 so I am sure that this scenario was not tested. only Powerchute Business Edition or Powerchute Network Shutdown is supported on that operating system.
the idea is that server class devices would be using a Smart UPS or larger UPS where as Powerchute Personal Edition is for Back UPS, generally used by home users and not so much server class devices.
[here is the compatibility chart for powerchute personal edition|http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/JNOE-7GSAQJ_R8_EN.pdf]

no, powerchute business edition does not support any Back UPS models unfortunately so it will not work correctly. it will not detected the UPS.
