I recently purchased an XS 1300 and have been running it for about a week with no complaints. However, today I discovered a potential deal-breaker: Its extremely loud fan kicks in when the power usage exceeds ~420W. It is NOT running on battery when this happens. It has been plugged in for a week, and the battery is fully charged.
I've got the following plugged into the battery backup outlets:
- Desktop PC
- Home theatre PC (micro 65W)
- 24" LCD monitor
- Modem
- Router
- PS3 (standby mode only)
The power usage only breaks the 400W barrier when my graphics card needs consume more power (i.e. for games).
Could somebody please explain why the fan kicks in when the load goes above ~420W? Is this normal?

hi,
there are numerous threads on this subject. what is the load percentage on this UPS? Back UPS have a fan that is intended to keep the unit cooler when any ONE or more of the conditions below are true (in general, not sure about this specific model):
-UPS is charging the battery
-UPS is on battery
-UPS load is above a certain percentage
-Internal temperature goes above a certain temperature (certain UPS models)
-if the unit is boosting or trimming incoming voltage
it depends also if this is BX1300G or BX1300LCD because they are completely different hardware platforms and internal workings with different firmware.
i'd suggest searching for forum for fan noise or other keywords to bring up the other threads on this so we don't have to rehash what has already been answered.
essentially, i believe this is normal behavior. hope that helps.
