STORING ES-550's for future use

been told that the ES-550's only last about 3 years and battery replacement more expensive than merely buying new ones when they are on sale (NOW at Staples for $49.95)---need 4 of them so wonder if they last "on the shelf" while waiting to be needed??

[this may help|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/91/]. i'd follow those guidelines and ensure that the battery is fully disconnected from the UPS while in storage, to avoid it discharging more rapidly into the UPS electronics.
