SMT-1500IC does not power on after utility power is restored
Hi,
Environment:
SMT-1500IC is protecting Synology NAS and two OPNsense firewalls (running on Intel NUC's) + network switch and GPON modem.
SMT has NMC v2 installed in it. Synology and firewalls have NUT agent installed, all configured as SNMPv3 clients to NMC.
Synology is configured to shutdown after just 5 minutes of on-battery operation (to save battery power for firewalls - firewalls are considered "critical" while NAS is not). Firewalls shut down on low-battery signal only, which is typically after 3 hours of on-battery operation.
I see no option in NUT agent to initiate UPS shutdown so effectively UPS runs on batteries until its batteries are fully discharged.
Issue:
When UPS turns off eventually (with batteries fully discharged) and utility power is restored then, it does not power itself back on. I understand there are "Power On Delay" and "Min Return Runtime" settings (set to 300 and 600 secs respectively) but UPS seems to ignore them - it stays off even after an hour after utility power got restored (and batteries are fully recharged).
One has to press the Power button and confirm "Cancel Shutdown" on UPS's keybord/display. Then UPS starts to countdown "Power On Delay" timer and eventually powers itself on.
Why is this happening ? NMC is configured to "Restart when power is restored".
I understand NUT agent does not replace PCNS functionality so does not send valid "power off" signal to NMC (like PCNS does) so UPS runs until batteries die but unfortunately in this environment I have no option to use/run PCNS.
I have another set up where SMT-1500I with NMC v3 protects two PCs with standalone ESXi's and multiple VMs. In this case I was able to run PCNS for ESX (as VMs) and everything operates as expected.
